INTERNATIONAL CONTEMPORARY ENSEMBLE

As an undergraduate at the Oberlin Conservatory, Claire cofounded the International Contemporary Ensemble, a collective of musicians, digital media artists, producers, and educators who are committed to creating collaborations built on equity, belonging, and cultural responsiveness. Claire served as artistic director of the Ensemble for 16 seasons, overseeing the premieres of more than one thousand new works on five continents. Under her leadership, the organization was awarded the Ensemble of the Year Award from Musical America in 2014, two CMA/ASCAP Awards for Adventurous Programming in 2005 and 2010, and was described by The New Yorker as "the new gold standard for new music." In 2016, Claire stepped down from her position as artistic director and joined the organization’s board of directors. George Lewis was announced as the new artistic director in 2022. Both Claire and Prof. Lewis will be honored at the International Contemporary Ensemble’s 20th anniversary gala in January 2023.
