MacArthur Fellow and Flutist Claire Chase makes her SPCO debut in a concert highlighting themes of movement, displacement and migration. Lauded for her “rare combination of grace and guts” (Wall Street Journal), Chase leads a performance of Sciarrino’s Cutting the Circle of Sounds, an immersive composition written for four flute soloists and 100 migrating flutists of all ages and abilities. Sciarrino’s masterpiece will be accompanied by a new work by Brazilian composer Marcos Balter, known for his ability to “create vivid emotional contexts,” (The Washington Post) through his “whimsical” and “surreal” (New York Times) compositions.
