Salvatore Sciarrino’s “Cerchio Tagliato dei Suoni” (Chicago Premiere)

  • Bienen School of Music at Northwestern University 70 Arts Cir Dr Evanston, IL 60208 (map)

Claire performs Salvatore Sciarrino’s immersive 70-minute "Cerchio Tagliato dei Suoni" (Cutting the Circle of Sounds) for four flute soloists and a mass of flute “migranti.” This work of aural theater by the avant-garde Italian composer and visual artist encourages the audience to re-think the space and concert experience. Sciarrino’s piece envelops the audience in an abstract blanket of often barely audible sounds, which are then disrupted by processions of migrating flutists, effectively “cutting the circle of sounds.” Often performed in museum spaces, Chase transports this unique experience to Bienen's Galvin Recital Hall with the help of a large group of local flutists of all ages and abilities. Find out how to participate.

Performing with Claire and the flute migranti are three featured artists from Northwestern University's Flute Studio: Alexandria Hoffman, Andrea Cunningham, and Christian Bailey.
